Licensing JMLR Articles
As of Volume 18, all articles in JMLR are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International
License. Thus, no permissions are required to use the articles in ways consistent with the CC license – for instance, use in electronic or print course materials, delivery via interlibrary loan, photocopying for general or business use, sharing content elecronically, or republication or display – so long as proper attribution is maintained. For articles published in Volume 17 and before, rights in JMLR articles rest with the authors. Thus, requests for permissions – such as for use in electronic or print course materials, delivery via interlibrary loan, photocopying for general or business use, sharing content elecronically, or republication or display – should be addressed to the authors of individual articles.
Of course, because JMLR articles are freely available at the journal web site, many of these uses may be more simply handled by providing links to the articles to students, colleagues, or others. No permission is necessary to do so.
